Ah, Portland...
Who knew preaching to the choir in 90 degree weather could be this fun?
You led us on a wild romp around your fair city, decked out in fancy socks, purple wigs, thigh-high boots, and thick plush turtle costumes. Poor sweaty turtle hung on to the end, and as the bike parade wound down the last hill, headed straight for the fountain at Waterfront Park for a collective water dance of joy, it was clear that y'all know how to host a party.
You got down to business-- moving to the music, showing off your skills in freak-bike riding and karaoke singing, and throwing down for your local Bicycle Transportation Alliance. You stayed hydrated as the sun grew hotter (isn't it supposed to be, you know, cold and rainy and stuff?) and told us some crazy tales from your bicycle-storied pasts.
At the Wolverine Farm Publishing urban homestead, we learned that you keep goats in the backyard and bees on the roof. You've been canning pickles and jams since you were babies, and were more than happy to share some of your favorite recipes with us. One of you was delighted to see a group of young people celebrating Ed Abbey. And one of you was visiting from the Bronx, and you won our hearts with your kind words and the fact that you bike through Queens at the peak of summer.
Keep riding, friends! We'll be back. We'll always be back.
