Tour de Fat: San Francisco
Written by Jordan Twiggs

Oh, San Francisco!

SanFranTDF

What a lovely day you provided us! Not only the weather, but the chitchat and costumes wowed us, too. Even though we were outside of the beer garden, the few of you that could go without a beverage in hand for a bit were generous enough to share your time and knowledge with us.

The progressiveness of San Francisco astounds us, as they encourage quite fantastic ways of living in the municipality. We like rainwater harvesting, and so does the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission. The only ones who didn’t seem to be all that enthused about it was San Franciscans! If the city lets you do it, make it happen! The SFPUC even offers quite a bit of information on their website. They fill you in on topics related to the nature of rainwater harvesting, how to make it happen, and all sorts of ways that you can accomplish such a wonderful thing. The authorities and citizens of San Fran frown upon municipal waste and they figure by reclaiming usable water before it collects waste on the way to the drain, they can keep the city much cleaner.

Didn’t hear much about chickens or small “farm” animals from you fellow urban homesteaders, but just to keep you in the loop, they’re legal! The city allows up to four chickens per household. With a proper, approved coop or closure 20 feet away from windows or doors, we understand it’s hard for most of you to pull it off legally, but we say try anyways. There’s nothing like fresh eggs for breakfast in the morning and a nicely fertilized garden.

Thanks for all the smiles and camaraderie!

See you next year, you liberal bunch of Californians!

Cheers from the Wolverine Farm Urban Homesteaders.
