Tempe!
You are hot! Not in the sense that you have some good lookin’ folks, but man, was it scorching! We know, we know, it wasn’t “even that bad,” but we’re not used to 96-degree weather. If we could have jumped in the Tempe Town Lake, we would have, but it wasn’t there! What a shame.
For such a dry, hot, and strangely placed town, you sure were hip to a lot of the things the Wolverine Farm Urban Homestead had to share with you. In most other cities, I have to explain what xeriscaping is, but no, you knew it through and through. The city of Tempe even offers rebates of up to $500 on supplies purchased to xeriscape your front and backyards! That’s impressive and progressive.
When it comes to rainwater harvesting, you knew your stuff, too. Though there’s not much annual rainfall, it seemed as if most of you tried to catch every possible drop. Not only are you enthusiastic about it, yet again, the city of Tempe helps you out! They offer tax credits for residents who install rainwater catchment systems at their homestead. What you didn’t seem to be aware of, however, was that they offer the same for those who install residential greywater collection systems. Take advantage of what the municipal institution offers you and start catching that sink water!
Out of the 11 stops we’ve had so far, Tempe proved to be one of the largest and more enthusiastic of the bunch. Thanks for showing us such a good time.
Keep that sunscreen on Tempe, We’ll come back for some more heat in 2011. The WFP Urban Homestead Crew.
