We've been heading West with Matter Journal for so long we've ended up on the other coast. The hinterland. The far shore. Jersey! Springsteen! The Big Apple! We’ve reversed Manifest Destiny and found that we love maple syrup, Vermont Revolutionaries, Cape Cod, and all those wetlands. We don't love Dutch Elm disease, big government, or all those spider-webs of concrete highways and asphalt bi-ways.
Deep roots of American Culture twist and tangle in fissures of sandstone drinking from the lush drainage of Appalachia and the salt-marshes of the coastal lowlands. They course underground among the gas, water, communication and electric pipes in our subways. Our East Coast brims with history and the powerful energy of the unceasing re-inventing of a nation.
Because, above all else, we are interested in good art bringing good questions to our audience, surprise us with your sense of the continental edge. Push upon these notions until ideas rise up like folds of an Eastern mountain range.
